About the company
Arc’teryx is a global design company specializing in technical high-performance apparel and equipment. Based in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada, Arc’teryx is distributed through more than 2,400 retail locations worldwide, including 160 branded stores. Its design process is rooted in the real world, focused on delivering durable, unrivalled performance in the mountain environment. In 2020, Arc’teryx tasked itself with addressing the impact of climate change and doing its part as responsible global citizens by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. Arc’teryx committed to annual reporting on its progress towards meeting science-based greenhouse gas emissions targets as a signatory of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The goal
In line with its belief that “good design that matters makes lives better,” Arc’teryx came to Works Design in 2021. The goal was to deliver an impactful climate report developed with state-of-the-art communications techniques to clearly outline its commitment to achieving low-carbon goals through the SBTi. The SBTi is leading the way to a zero-carbon economy for corporations using real science to drive positive outcomes and meet ambitious targets.
As one of the first Canadian outdoor apparel brands to embrace the SBTi, Arc’teryx was looking for an opportunity to lead the way in speaking about their own footprint, key initiatives, and analysis of the data in a way that was easily accessible and understandable for audiences ranging from the average customer to the carbon analyst. It also wanted an engaging way to leverage its reporting and enhance its content presentation and analysis on governance, risk, strategy and metrics.
The Works Design team helped Arc’teryx take stock of its management efforts and present them in a way that would align with its commitment to the SBTi and its involvement in the globally recognized framework of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) while remaining true to its own brand voice and identity.
How we helped
The Arc’teryx brand identity is rooted in the mountains and terrain the company calls home. By combining expansive and exciting visuals supplied by Arc’teryx, we were able to design and develop a visually compelling report while taking a deep dive into Arc’teryx’s work towards their environmental and governance goals. It is both a well-documented factual resource and a graphically stunning composition. Using Arc’teryx’s assured and authoritative voice, Works Design successfully communicated positive, optimistic messages from senior leadership and provided an uplifting overall message of hope for the future.
